The History of Zou Bisou Bisou

Megan Draper (Jessica Paré) sings “Zou Bisou Bisou” during Don’s (Jon Hamm) ‘surprise’ birthday party on the series 5 premier episode of ‘Mad Men’.

Jessica’s singing turn on the show was so popular that makers decided to release her version of the French classic as a 7inch vinyl single.

There’s even an unoffical Jean-Claude Van Damme mash-up video which has the muscles from Brussels showing his dance moves (bought to my attention via the Conan O’Brien show).

According to Wikipedia,  “Zou Bisou Bisou” was recorded by various artists before Paré.

The song was Gillian Hills’  first single in the summer of 1960. A French recording entitled “Zoo Be Zoo Be Zoo” was produced by George Martin and sung in English by Sophia Loren.

Seems to be that this recording is the original version. The Loren version (titled,”Zoo Be Zoo Be Zoo”) was originally publicity associated with the October 1960 film ‘The Millionairess’ on the album Peter and Sophia.
